The first thing you notice when you listen to Wolfe is his unfiltered-cigarettes-and-cheap-whiskey vocals, reminiscent of Tom Waits. I don’t know what to call Afton Wolfe’s music besides Americana. He picks and chooses pieces of blues and folk, country and jazz, and stitches them together in a sound that’s uniquely his own. Twangville
If you’re tired of wimpy mainstream vocals of pimply vocalists who haven’t lived yet — this is the cure. Wolfe sings with authority, experience & realism. He pours it dramatically but never artificially. He could sing songs that are Tom Waits-embellished or go full-tilt bluesy like Howlin’ Wolf. -Americana Highways
